Kris Jenner Kardashian Leaky Bladder Problem – Stress Incontinence

If you keep up with today’s Hollywood scene then you know about the Kardashian’s.  Well in the latest episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s, Kris Jenner, the mother has issues with her bladder – a weak bladder women.  Well I found a good article that talks more about the problems she has at

Jenner is among the one in three women who experiences urinary stress incontinence, according to the Women’s Health Foundation. The problem strikes 13Kris Karadashian Weak Bladder women millionAmericans, and is twice as common in women as men. In fact, women take nearly 1.2 million trips to the doctor’s office each year specifically for incontinence, according to the National Association for Continence, and many more suffer without getting help, too embarrassed to seek treatment.

Jenner is speaking out about the condition (as a spokeswoman for Poise, a maker of pads for light bladder leakage) to help women feel less ill at ease about this problem.

“People think they’re the only ones dealing with this,” says Jenner. “When you realize that the woman sitting next to you is probably going through the same thing, you feel less lonely.”

What Causes Urinary Incontinence?

Stress incontinence occurs when the pelvic muscles supporting the bladder weaken, which can cause urine to leak out unexpectedly, especially during exercise or when you’re having a hearty laugh or sneezing or coughing. It’s especially common among women during pregnancy and after childbirth (even decades later). The more children you have — a major factor for Jenner — the greater your risk.

Menopause can also trigger stress incontinence in older women; as decreasing levels of the hormone estrogen negatively affect bladder control.

Jenner says she luckily didn’t have to deal with bladder leaks during her pregnancies, but started to notice the problem more and more over the last few years.

About a year ago, Jenner experienced one of her most embarrassing bladder bouts. During her kids’ spring break, she was jumping on a trampoline with her daughters when some urine leaked out — and everyone noticed. “I’ll never forget it,” Jenner says. “I felt really bad about it.”

While Jenner can laugh about the incident with her family now, bladder problems cause many women to feel ashamed and isolate themselves from friends and social situations. It can also take a toll at work: One study found that 40 percent of women with incontinence experience symptoms at work, causing dips in concentration and confidence.

Jenner says she’s learned to deal and not let incontinence get the best of her. “Light bladder leakage is not a big, bad monster, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Once you prepare yourself, you can laugh and jump and sneeze, and do it with confidence.”

Now, Jenner makes sure she doesn’t run or jump around unless she’s prepared. She wears Poise pads (natch) and always keeps a stash in her purse, which she says help her worry less. (There are other brands out there too — just check at your local drugstore.) “When you protect yourself, you can just take care of the problem and get back to your life,” she says.
